My Sampson, my baby
by Tara Trainor
Sampson aka Sammie was left tied to a tree on a street corner in a rough part of town. I am a traveling special education preschool teacher. When I arrived at the center to work with some children, I heard a dog in distress and went looking. My first reaction when seeing him was "oh my God, this pitbull is dangerous for these children". I called animal control (I was not as educated then!). I called them 4 times to hurry up, kids could be in danger. I knocked on a few doors to see if he was just waiting for someone to return and was told, a lady had been walking him trying to give him away. I then took a chance to try to meet him, he sounded so sad. I was attacked!!!! He kissed me and loved me and stole my heart!!!! I called my husband in tears...we already had 4 rescued dogs, could we actually take in another???? He said let's see how the pack accepts him. I loaded him into my car, left work early and took this baby home. My 4 other dogs liked him!! This began my journey into pitbull education, advocacy and death row dog rescue and transport. Sammie changed my whole life and I love him with my whole heart. I have cried MANY times over the hurtful and hateful words spoken against his breed. If they only knew my Sammie.
