Puck the Pit

Puck the Pit

Puck (formally known as Rocky) is by far, the smallest dog we've ever owned. In the past we've been Rotti & Mastiff owners, the bigger the better is our motto! My husband and I were researching American Bulldogs & came across the American Bulldog Rescue. The moderator contacted us & told us there was an "American bulldog mix puppy" at the shelter but that he wouldn't be there much longer, you know, as in, goodnight sweet pup. She sent us pictures, he was very cute but you couldn't tell much about Puck through the pictures. We made an appointment to see this cute pup that same day and when we got there, it was very evident this "American Bulldog Mix" was 100% Pit Bull & he was about 9 months (pretty much set in his size)! We were fooled! Just look at him! If that's not a Pit Face & head then call me crazy! As soon as we met Puck it was too late to turn back! He was so sweet & so cute, we just couldn't walk away.

We brought Puck home that same day, made a trip to PetSmart, bought him all kinds of treats, toys, beds, kennel. (You could say he's spoiled, we can't deny that!) We also have 2 cats, so we went into this rescue knowing we'd have to socialize & test the waters. We gave Puck 30 days to gel with the heads of the house (Corky & Shugga). We introduced them slowly, not knowing what to expect, one day he playfully pounced on each cat, they beat him up (a few swats & hisses, never clawing, thank goodness) & the cats put this 50lb Pit in his place! Now our king size bed feels like a twin! Every night our bed is filled with 2-humans, 2-cats & 1-Puck! The cats walk around & purr up to Puck & they all hang out in the yard together! The cats still swat at Puck & he loves it! It must feel like he's getting a face massage! It's One Big Happy Family Mess!!

Two months later & Puck is still doing great!! Training, so far, is successful, we're training with the "clicker", he knows come, sit, down, leave it. He walks great on the leash, he has his own doggie backpack, is being socialized everyday & has met the entire family. Everyone loves him! Even though this 50lb Pit won't get much bigger, you'd never know that from his strength! He has the strength of my 140lb Rotti only wrapped up in a smaller package! Puck is definitely in the heart of the family!
